Istanbul has hosted many civilizations for thousands of years as the culture and knowledge center of Eurasia. It’s always been the center of attention of foreign travelers with its unique beauty. Founded as the capital city of Roman Empire, Istanbul has remained as an important city through the history.
In Ottoman Empire period, one of the names of Istanbul was “Der Saadet”, which means “Door of Happiness”. This name describes not only the happiness of the people residing in Istanbul but also a city which people entering from the doors of the city find happiness. Istanbul continues to maintain and transfer this beautiful meaning it has lived and made its people live in the past to the future.
We hope that this work, which contributes to 2010 Istanbul Europe’s Capital City studies, attract the world’s attention to the importance of our prestigious city.
By this cultural heritage which we shall pass to the future, we reminisce Adnan Büyükdeniz, my close friend, our decedent General manager who has made the best efforts to bring the work to life, once again with love and respect.
