The calligraphy contest organized by Albaraka Turk within the framework of the “20th Foundation Anniversary Celebrations” has resulted.
As a result of evaluations made by the jury in the eliminations of the contest, which has 160 works of participants from Turkey and abroad, the first three works of art in Thuluth, Thuluth Naskh, Jali Thuluth, Jali Diwani and Jali Ta’liq categories have been selected according to the specification stated previously. Besides the first three ranks, some other works in these categories deserved to get the encouragement award from the jury. Furthermore, one work is selected for Albaraka Turk Special Award.
One of the participants from Iran, Javad Khouran, is deemed worthy of “Albaraka Turk Special Award” in Jali Thuluth category. While Ferhat Kurlu has won the first place in two important categories, Jali Thuluth and Thuluth, the works of Abdurrahman A. Abdi from Syria in Thuluth Naskh category, Khaled Al Saai from Syria in Jali Diwani category and Tahsin Kurt in Jali Ta’liq category have deserved to get the first rank awards. Along with second and third prizes, Special Encouragement Awards are given to 23 artists in the contest.
Along with being the first calligraphy contest organized by a private sector in Turkey, “Albaraka Turk Calligraphy Contest” is the calligraphy contest that have given the greatest amount of awards in total up to date.
Albaraka Turk Participation Bank, which keeps supporting traditional calligraphy born with Islamism and developed in Ottoman period, has organized its second calligraphy contest this year.
172 works in total from 20 different countries have participated in the contest which aims to contribute to sustain and develop traditional calligraphy. Participations from the countries such as the USA, Russia, the UK, Spain and Germany have been an indicator that this contest is really international.
The subject of the contest, in which calligraphy artists Mehmed Özçay, Davut Bektaş and Prof. Uğur Derman were the juries, was determined as ‘cooperativeness’. The contest had five categories named Jali Thuluth, Thuluth, Thuluth Naskh, Jali Ta’liq and Jali Diwani.
The contest has ended on October 1, 2008, and 17 works in five categories has won awards. Also, 23 works in total are deemed worthy of honorable mentions by the juries.
Ömer Faruk Tekbilek, who is considered as one of the greatest ney players in the world, performed a magnificent concert in the ceremony in which the participants of Albaraka Turk’s third traditional calligraphy contest and famous people from different communities such as politics and art have attended.
17 artists have ranked and 23 artists have won the encouragement award in the third Albaraka Turk International Calligraphy Contest in September, which had 176 participants and five categories. Osman Akyüz, Hood Hashem Ahmet Hashem and Hamad Abdulla A. EQAB from our members of the Board of Directors and General Manager of Takas Bank Murat Ulus have granted the awards to the participants. Later, they made a journey to the different climate of music with the concert of Ömer Faruk Tekbilek in the evening.
Hasan Çelebi, who talked on the name of the jury, has stated that they had difficulties in selecting the winners during the evaluations in Albaraka Turk calligraphy contest this year, and indicated that this contest holds a significant importance both for Turkey and for the world.
Albaraka Turk, which has left 30 years behind in participation banking, continues to support the arts. The interest in calligraphy art that started in the very first day of our bank turned into a concrete project for the first time with the contest that had been organized ten years ago. In the contest that had five categories, three artists from Turkey and one from Egypt were deemed worthy of awards. The winners and their categories are:
224 artists from 25 countries have participated in the contest.
The subject of this year is Aid, i.e. to give everything moral and material to the people in need with no thought of personal gain. The first place was rewarded with 30,000₺, the second with 20,000₺ and the third with 15,000₺. The Albaraka Turk International Calligraphy Contest, which Albaraka Turk started in 2005, had its second time in 2008 and its third time in 2011. This year’s juries are the important people of calligraphy art: Prof. Ugur Derman, Hasan Celebi, Ali Toy, Davut Bektas, Mehmet Ozcay, Prof. Dr. M. Husrey Subasi, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Savas Cevik.
